GoodLife Inc. ("we" or "us") provides the MyTaxFree app and the MyTaxFree website (together, the "Service"). This Policy explains how we collect, process, and use your personal data, and how you can manage that data. This Policy is made in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
1Scope
This Policy applies to the MyTaxFree app, the MyTaxFree website, and your communications with our customer support.
When you go from the Service to another website or service, such as that of a store, a refund provider, or the Japanese government, the privacy policy of that website or service applies.
2Data We Collect
Depending on the features you use, we may collect the following data:
- Account data: When you sign in with Apple, Google, LINE, or email, the account identifier, email address, and name provided through that sign-in method. The actual data depends on the sign-in method and the scope of what you authorize. You can also use some features of the Service without signing in.
- Receipt data: Receipt photos you take or select; text and content recognized from those photos, such as the store, date, amount, tax amount, item names, and translations; and the content, tags, refund status, and amount records that you enter or edit yourself.
- Device and usage data: Device model and name, operating system and version, app version, language and time zone, IP address, installation identifier, analytics identifier, push notification identifier, sign-in records, error and crash logs, and records of your use of the Service, such as the screens you open, the features you use, and the coupons you view or present. Product analytics, which is voluntary, is handled separately from other service records; see Section 6.
- Advertising identifier data: When we have the applicable consent and your device allows it, the app may use your device's advertising identifier to measure ad performance. On iPhone, personal-level tracking also requires the system's tracking permission. For how aggregated measurement works if you decline tracking, see Section 6.
- Consent records: The version, language, and time of your consent or withdrawal of consent for matters such as cloud scanning, push notifications, product analytics, or ad tracking, together with the account and installation identification information related to that choice.
- Contact data: The email address and message content you provide when you write to customer support.
- Website browsing data: Data obtained through cookies and similar technologies when you browse the MyTaxFree website, such as the pages you view, the referring website, your device and browser type, and your approximate region; see Section 7.
Receipts may show information such as membership numbers and payment methods. Please photograph only the receipts you need to record.
3How We Use Data
We use your data within the scope of the following purposes:
- Providing the Service: Sign-in and account management; recognizing, organizing, and translating receipts; backup and sync across devices; looking up refund information; and displaying coupons.
- Push notifications: Sending notifications about offers and promotions after you consent.
- Customer support: Responding to inquiries and handling requests, including requests to delete your account.
- Security: Verifying identity, preventing abuse and fraud, and maintaining system security.
- Maintenance and improvement: Fixing errors, compiling service operation statistics, and improving recognition quality and features; and, based on your choice, conducting product analytics.
- Ad performance: Understanding the number of installs driven by ads and the cost of advertising; see Section 6.
- Legal compliance: Handling data as required by law or by competent authorities.
To handle recognition results you have edited, customer support inquiries, or security incidents, authorized personnel may review the relevant receipt data and photos to the extent necessary.
We do not make receipt photos public, and we do not use receipt photos or receipt content for advertising or provide them to third parties for advertising purposes.
4Cloud Scanning
If you agree to use cloud scanning, your receipt photos and the text recognized from them are sent to third-party cloud services and AI services to recognize receipt content, organize item details, and translate item names.
You can turn off cloud scanning at any time in the app under "Me → Cloud scanning". When you turn it off, new scans stop on this phone first. Once your phone connects to the internet and we receive your withdrawal of consent, our servers will also no longer start new scans.
Scans that have already been submitted may still be completed, and receipts you have already saved are not deleted as a result. Turning off cloud scanning does not affect account backup while you are signed in.
Recognition and translation results may contain errors. The original receipt is the authoritative record.
5Disclosure and Outsourced Processing
We do not provide your personal data to third parties, except in the following cases:
- Service providers: To provide the Service, we engage service providers for cloud computing, data storage, text recognition and AI, push notifications, email delivery, error monitoring, and analytics to process data on our behalf. Service providers may process data only on our instructions and only to the extent necessary to provide their services. We also require service providers to protect your data to a standard no lower than that of this Policy.
- Sign-in services: When you sign in with Apple, Google, or LINE, those services process sign-in data under their own privacy policies.
- Push notifications: Notifications are delivered to your device through Apple's and Google's push notification services.
- Google Analytics and Meta: See Sections 6 and 7.
- Legal requirements: We provide data as required by law or in response to lawful requests from judicial or competent authorities.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, division, or transfer of business, data may be transferred to the successor in accordance with the law and will continue to be subject to this Policy. We will give notice in advance.
6Analytics and Ad Performance Measurement
Product Analytics
"Help improve the app" is voluntary and off by default. Only after you consent do we send feature usage events, language, and analytics identification information to an analytics service in the United States, so that we can understand how features are used, how users move through the app, and whether users keep using the app.
This choice is separate from cloud scanning, "Improve store & amount scans", promotional push notifications, and ad tracking. Choosing not to take part does not affect the app's main features.
Product analytics does not include receipt photos, receipt text, items, amounts, store names, email addresses, or phone numbers, and it does not record your screen. The analytics service still receives your IP address when the app connects to it. When you are not signed in, a random analytics identifier is used; after you sign in, analytics data can be linked to your account through a separate random identifier. As a result, this data may still be linked to you and is not completely anonymous. We do not provide this analytics data for advertising purposes.
You can turn off "Help improve the app" at any time in the app under "Me → Privacy & cloud processing". When you turn it off, the app first stops sending new analytics data and clears any analytics data on your device that has not yet been sent. For members, the withdrawal of consent is sent to our servers once the app is online and your identity has been verified. If the change is still being processed or cannot be saved, the app shows its status.
Turning off analytics is not the same as deleting data that has already been sent. To have that data deleted, submit a request as described in Section 10, or delete your account as described in Section 12.
After you sign in, sign out, or switch accounts, you need to choose again whether to take part. Choices made for the same account on different devices are handled separately. Guest analytics records from before you signed in are not automatically linked to member analytics records when you sign in or when your receipts are merged into your account.
Turning off product analytics does not stop us from recording service operation, security, and error information, and it does not stop coupon operation statistics or "Improve store & amount scans". That data is handled according to its own purposes and settings, and "Improve store & amount scans" can be turned off separately.
Ad Performance Measurement (Meta)
We use tools provided by Meta to understand the number of installs driven by ads and the cost of advertising. We keep privacy-preserving aggregated measurement separate from personal-level ad tracking. Agreeing to product analytics is not the same as agreeing to ad tracking. We do not provide receipt photos or receipt content to Meta.
Personal-level ad tracking is enabled only after we obtain the applicable consent; on iPhone, the system's tracking permission is also required. Until that consent and permission are obtained, the app does not send data to Meta.
Once tracking is enabled, Meta receives the app install and app open events needed to measure installs, device information, and the advertising identifier where its use is allowed. This data does not include receipts, coupon usage records, or account data. Meta also receives your IP address when the app connects to it.
Meta processes the data it receives under its own policies and may combine it with data provided by other apps or websites for ad measurement and ad delivery. Declining tracking does not affect the app's main features, and we will not use other identifying information to get around your choice to decline.
If you decline personal-level tracking, we may still obtain aggregated results, such as the number of installs driven by ads, through attribution mechanisms that are provided by the operating system and comply with its privacy rules.
You can manage personal-level tracking in the following ways:
- In the app: Go to "Me → Privacy & cloud processing" to manage it.
- iPhone: Choose not to allow tracking when the system asks, or change your choice later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: In addition to the choice in the app, you can delete or reset your advertising ID using the settings your device provides. Deleting or resetting your advertising ID is not the same as stopping all analytics or aggregated measurement.
- Meta: Go to Meta Ad Preferences to adjust how Meta uses data to show you ads.
After you turn off tracking, the app will no longer enable this tracking. Data collected before you turned it off may still be sent, and turning off tracking does not delete data already sent to Meta.
For how Meta processes data, see the Meta Privacy Policy.
7Website Cookies and Google Analytics
The MyTaxFree website uses Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to measure website visits and usage and obtain statistical reports. The browsing data collected may include pages viewed, time spent, referring websites, device type, and approximate region.
For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the website does not use cookies for statistical purposes, but it still sends analytics requests to Google without using analytics cookies. In other regions, the website uses analytics cookies to collect browsing data. Not using analytics cookies does not mean that no data is sent; Google may still receive your IP address and browser information when a connection is made.
We do not collect your name, email address, or receipt data through Google Analytics. All advertising-related features on the website are disabled.
For how Google processes data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but this does not necessarily stop the analytics requests described above that do not use analytics cookies. To disable Google Analytics in your browser, follow the instructions for the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to install and enable the add-on in a supported browser. Blocking cookies does not affect your ability to read the website's content.
8Where Data Is Stored
We and our service providers may process and store your data in countries or regions outside Taiwan, such as the United States, Japan, or Europe. We choose service providers that have appropriate security measures in place.
9Retention Periods
- Account data: Kept until you delete your account.
- Receipt data: Kept until you delete that receipt or delete your account.
- Receipts and photos when you are not signed in: Stored on your phone; account backup is not available. If you use cloud scanning, photos and related data are still sent to the cloud for processing; temporary data on our servers is deleted periodically after processing is complete.
- Temporary data from the recognition process: Deleted periodically after processing is complete.
- Usage records: Kept for as long as needed for service operation, statistics, and improvement, and deleted when no longer needed. When you delete your account, the usage records belonging to that account are included in the deletion; the analytics service may need additional time to process it. Turning off analytics or deleting the app from your phone does not mean that data on our servers or in external analytics services has been deleted.
- Push notification identifiers: Kept for as long as needed to send push notifications; when an identifier becomes invalid or you turn off push notifications, we stop using it and delete it.
- Consent records: Kept for as long as needed to prove that you gave or withdrew consent.
- Sign-in, security, and system logs: Kept for as long as needed to maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot problems, and deleted when no longer needed.
- Customer support correspondence: Kept for as long as needed to handle your inquiry or request and to keep a record of how it was handled.
- Advertising identifier data: Used in line with the consent and device settings described in Section 6. We use it only to measure the number of installs driven by ads and the cost of advertising; Meta processes and retains the data it receives under its own policies. See Section 6.
- Website browsing data: User-level and event-level data in Google Analytics that can be linked to individual visitors is automatically deleted when the retention period we have set expires. Aggregated statistical reports that do not identify individuals may be kept long-term.
- Data kept after account deletion: We delete account data and receipt data, but for security and legal reasons we keep a minimal amount of processing records for a certain period. System backups used for disaster recovery are cleared according to their retention cycle. For the scope and periods of what we keep, see Deleting Your MyTaxFree Account and Data.
Until the external deletion of product analytics data is confirmed as complete, we keep the minimum linking records needed to complete and retry the deletion. These records are kept until the external deletion is complete, even after the retention periods listed on the "Deleting Your MyTaxFree Account and Data" page have passed.
If, when the external deletion is complete, the retention period for deletion notices and backup recovery records has not yet ended, we continue to keep minimal records linking the account to its analytics data for the rest of that period. If a system backup is restored later, these records are used to carry out the deletion again, so that deleted account data is not used again to provide the Service. For the specific scope and periods, see Deleting Your MyTaxFree Account and Data.
10Your Rights
Under the Personal Data Protection Act, you may make the following requests to us:
- To inquire about or review your personal data;
- To obtain a copy of your personal data;
- To supplement or correct your personal data;
- To stop the collection, processing, or use of your personal data;
- To delete your personal data.
Some data can be edited or deleted directly in the app. For other requests, please email [email protected]. To protect your data, we will first verify your identity. Where required by law or necessary to fulfill a legal obligation, we may not be able to carry out your request in full; if so, we will explain why.
The random analytics identifier used when you are not signed in cannot always be matched to your email address or account. When you ask us to look up or delete these records, please tell us that you used the app as a guest, and we will help determine what can be identified and handled. Signing in does not mean that your guest analytics records have been linked to that account, and deleting your account does not mean that these records have also been deleted.
11Your Choices
- Using the Service without signing in: You can use some features, but account backup is not available; see Section 9.
- Cloud scanning: You can choose not to agree to it, or turn it off at any time in the app under "Me → Cloud scanning"; for how turning it off takes effect, see Section 4. Without cloud scanning, you can still record receipts manually.
- Improve store & amount scans: On by default; you can turn it off in the app under "Me → Privacy & cloud processing". Turning it off does not affect recognition or backup.
- Product analytics: Voluntary and off by default; you can manage "Help improve the app" in the app under "Me → Privacy & cloud processing". For how to withdraw and what data is covered, see Section 6; turning it off is not the same as deleting data that has already been sent.
- Promotional push notifications: Off by default; you receive them only after you agree under "Notifications" in the app. You can cancel them at any time in the app, or turn off notifications in your phone's system settings.
- Camera and photo library permissions: If you do not allow them, you cannot take or select receipt photos in the app; other features are not affected.
- Ad tracking: For how to give consent and manage it, see Section 6.
- Website analytics: See Section 7.
- Deleting receipts or your account: You can delete individual receipts in the app, or delete your entire account. For how to delete your account, see Section 12.
If you do not provide sign-in data, account backup and sync across devices are not available.
12Deleting Your Account
In the app, go to "Me", tap your account, open "Account & devices", and then select "Delete account". You can also request deletion by emailing [email protected]. For what is deleted and how the process works, see Deleting Your MyTaxFree Account and Data.
13Minors
If you are a minor, please use the Service with the consent of your legal guardian.
14Data Security
We use encrypted transmission, access controls, and appropriate protections for sign-in credentials, but no method of transmitting or storing data over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If a personal data breach occurs, we will notify you as required by law.
15Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy. When we do, we will post the revised Policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. We will notify you of material changes through the app, the website, or other appropriate means; where the law requires us to obtain your consent again, we will do so.
16Language Versions
This Policy is available in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean. If there is any inconsistency between the versions, the Traditional Chinese version prevails.
